Job Summary
The Department of Kinesiology at Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Exercise Science beginning August 2024.

The Department of Kinesiology serves approximately 160 majors (Exercise Science, Sport Management) and minors (Coaching, Sport Management) and is part of a multi-disciplinary School of Health Sciences (SHS). In addition to Kinesiology, the SHS includes clinical and non-clinical programs in Nursing, Public Health, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Occupational Therapy.

The successful candidate will teach courses designed for the Exercise Science curriculum. This position requires a commitment to mentoring and advising students, facilitating undergraduate student research, a commitment to institutional service and a commitment to contributing to a climate of equity and inclusion.
Essential Functions
  • Course preparation and instruction (24 semester hours per academic year)
  • Academic advising, supervision of student internships, and service to the department
  • Build collaborative partnerships with other departments on campus, serve on department, college, and university committees and engage in scholarship and professional service activities

Teaching assignments may include the following content areas: anatomy and physiology, clinical exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, EKG interpretation, exercise prescription, nutrition and/or research methods.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Performs other duties as required or assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean of the School of Health Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or a closely related field (background in clinical exercise physiology is preferred)
  • Evidence of successful university teaching in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or a related discipline
  • Ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in the Exercise Science program
  • Visionary leadership skills aimed toward the growth of the program
  • Evidence of or potential for active involvement in academic associations in the field (e.g. ACSM, NSCA)
  • Ability to develop collegial relationships and work with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is usually subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is physically active in nature and involves exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, ability to focus, and peripheral vision.
