Life @ AMCORE Our Mission... Serving the financial needs of customers better than anyone else. What does the term One Company, One Culture mean? It means that AMCORE is a progressive, customer-focused organization. We value our employees, who positively impact shareholder return through teamwork, community involvement and exceptional customer service. What's in a Name? From the Heartland... AMCORE's history dates back to 1910 when a group of Rockford businessmen founded Swedish-American National Bank and Trust. The bank operated out of a storefront on Seventh Street and served the area's growing Swedish population. In 1945, the bank's name was changed to American National Bank and Trust Company to better reflect the broader market we served. In 1982, the bank's directors formed a multi-bank holding company in order to purchase additional banks and other businesses related to banking. The holding company was named Americorp Financial, Inc., and had two subsidiaries, American Bank and Colonial Bank of Rockford. In 1985, Americorp acquired Illinois National Bank and Trust Company of Rockford and merged with American National Bank. The resulting bank was named AMCORE Bank N.A., Rockford. The name AMCORE was chosen because it represents the Company's heritage, as well as the "core" or "heartland" of America in which we are located. Member FDIC.
