Job Description

Position Highlights:

  • Position: OFFICE SURGERY SCHEDULER, Orthopedics
  • Location: Woodridge & Naperville
  • Full-time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Travel: Could assist other Orthopedic Offices as needed

What you will need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Medical terminology and previous experience in healthcare/physician practicesetting
  • Ability to communicate using both written and verbal skills
  • Proficiency with organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical skills in order to maintain and modify the scheduling module
  • One year of EPIC experience preferred
  • BILINGUAL SPANISH & prior Medical Assistant experience preferred

What you will do:

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, this position is responsible for scheduling surgeries for the department. Collaborates with other team members to assist in problem resolution to identify the most efficient schedule.

  • Schedules surgical procedures based on available time slots, patients' availability, physicians' orders, and type and length of time required to surgery. Attempts to accommodate physicians by scheduling multiple procedures on a single day if possible.
  • Reschedules surgical procedures by contacting physicians and surgical center when required due to change in patients' availability, equipment problems, conflicting schedules and the like. Coordinates with surgical center site. Reschedules surgical procedures as soon as possible.
  • Collaborates with physician offices from other departments to obtain referrals, medical clearances and pertinent diagnostic and lab test.
  • Verifies patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Forwards documentation to financial counselors for prior authorizations.
  • Enters referrals in computer system and sends to Managed Care for authorization.
  • Informs patient/family of surgery process and assists with any questions. Defers to clinical staff for clinical questions.
  • Contacts referred patients for surgical consults and schedules appointments.
  • May perform related clerical duties including typing, photocopying, and filing as time permits or work load requires.
