Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides general patient care duties as directed by the RN:
    • 1)Monitor par levels of supply inventory and stock as appropriate
    • 2)Cleans carts and equipment according to infection control guidelines
    • 10)Delivers specimens to lab per protocol.
    • 3)Assists in emergency situations as assigned
    • 4)Properly obtains patient vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration and pulse, documents per EMR
    • 7)Communicates essential information to healthcare team members in other departments
    • 6)Quality patient care is supported through the communication and coordination of information to the appropriate health team member.
    • 5)Makes sure all carts are kept within the Interventional Radiology area after use and are checked to make sure nothing is left underneath or on cart after use
    • 8)Assist with prep of patients for imaging/pain services as well as monitoring of patients who experience contrast reaction or need IV hydration prior to testing.
    • 9)Assists with ambulation, recovery such as discontinue IV and recording of vital signs, provide education post recovery pain/imaging procedures and discharge to appropriate entrance.
  • Patient care support functions:
    • 1)Maintains patient confidentiality
    • 2)Communicates with patients and other healthcare professionals in a positive, respectful manner
    • 3)Seeks out RN when clinical information is requested
    • 4)Uses organizational skills to effectively complete assignments in a timely manner
    • 5)Provides safe environment for patient and health care team
    • 6)Complies with hospital/department policy and procedures
    • 7)Is self-directed to accomplish job duties and maintenance of department
    • 8)Assists with orientation of new personnel as directed
    • 9)Performs other duties as assigned
    • 10)Transcribes nurse findings as directed by RN 1. Document as appropriate in EMR 2. Generates computer printouts, compiles charts, and cathers reports as assigned.
  • Performs transportation of patients:
    • 6)Appropriately greets the patient and/or family members
    • 7)Provides the family and/or friends with directions to public waiting areas.
    • 1)Observes all safety procedures while transporting a patient
    • 2)Side rails are upright and locked in place during transport
    • 3)Staff is to remain with patient at all times while transporting
    • 4)Uses safety while transporting a patient in a hospital bed
    • 5)Assists clinical staff with patient transfers as necessary
    • 8)Assists with safe transport of post-imaging patients to the inpatient unit.
    • 9)Follows hand hygiene practice with all patient interactions and transport to/from units.
  • Performs tasks related to pre and post imaging care.
    • 1)Stocks appropriate supplies and makes ready equipment for next day's use
    • 2)Uses and maintains equipment in proper operating manner
    • 3)Uses pneumatic tube system appropriately as necessary
    • 4)Confirms pre procedure scheduled appointments
    • 5)Demonstrates good working knowledge of computer systems by receiving and sending information pertaining to imaging.
    • 6)Displays knowledge of telephone functions and courtesy
    • 7)Performs data collection and produces reports or other clerical duties as needed such as PACS or imaging reports.
    • 8)Reporting and distribution of radiation badges.
    • 9)Assist with annual safety requirements per crediting body such as annual lead apron inventory with direction by imaging supervisor.


Education/Experience Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, Certified Phlebotomist and one to two years' pertinent health care experience Knowledge of medical terminology


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good communication skills Good organizational skills Competent computer skills Good interpersonal/customer service skills Good telephone etiquette
  • CPR certification


Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment with established constraints May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities up to 100 lbs Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age group of patients Ability to communicate appropriately within the constraints of the Imaging Services environment Ability to work at a pace sufficient to complete original workload Ability to frequently stoop, bend, push, pull, lift, climb and demonstrate manual dexterity for extended periods of time
  • This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 04/20/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
