Position Highlights:

  • Position: Diabetes Educator

  • Location: Addison, IL

  • Full Time

  • Hours: Mon- Fri 8:30a-5p with one early day start 7:30am and one late day end at 6:30pm

What you will need:

Education, Skills and/or Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher

Education, Skills and/or Experience Preferred:

  • Master's Degree and/or minimum of five years of previous hospital experience as a Registered Nurse

  • A minimum of two years of previous diabetes education experience

  • Clinical research and/or program development experience

License and/or Certification Required:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse license

  • Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association

  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) required within two years of start date.

General Summary:

The RN Diabetes Educator plays a critical role in the glycemic management of the acutely ill diabetic patient during acute hospitalization. As a key member of the health care team, addresses medication management, tube feedings, renal functions and insulin drips for diabetic inpatients. In addition, assesses patient learning needs and provides education and motivation for patients who have, or are at risk of developing, diabetes. Educates patients with diabetes about the disease and disease management, including medications, diet, exercise, screening, and strategies for avoiding complications. Facilitates skill development and behavior modification to allow patients to successfully manage their disease.
