Product Engineer - Energy Solar

DUTIES:

Lippert Components, Inc. is seeking a full-time Product Engineer - Energy Solar at our offices in Elkhart, IN. The Product Engineer - Energy Solar leads a team and works with other functions (including mechanical, software, field applications, engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, marketing and sales) to define product requirements, and engineer and implement solutions during product life cycle. Specifically, the Product Engineer - Energy Solar: 1. Collaborates in the design, development, and application of new engineering products by identifying user needs and evaluating existing products; 2. Maintains and improves existing products by using engineering, technical and statistical skills; 3. Plans and conducts prototype tests and design failure mode analysis and design reviews; 4. Establishes testing, verification of requirements and specifications, and validation procedures and designs; 5. Implements and evaluates electrical hardware systems with design documentation (electrical schematics, PCB layouts, wire harness assemblies, CAD drawings and BOM creation); 6. Uses software like Solidworks, Altium Designer and product management programs for product design evaluation, and identifies and resolves technical issues using 8D methodologies; 7. Works with product marketing and sales teams to validate opportunities in the market; 8. Knowledgeable in renewable energy technologies (Solar & Wind energy harnessing), AC-DC power electronics (charge controllers, inverters, converters, power distribution), wire assemblies and rechargeable battery systems to develop new products; 9. Maintains workflow process for New Product Development Process between global Lippert offices; 10. Supports internal and external technical training; 11. Assesses new products for Lippert/Furrion in comparison to competitive products; and 12. Acts as technical resource to the warranty/customer service groups. 10% domestic travel is required to visit customer locations to act as product expert and technical support.

REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a Product Engineer position or related occupation. Must also have 12 months of experience with each of the following: (1) Collaborate in the design, development, and application of new engineering products by identifying user needs and evaluating existing products; (2) Work with various project stakeholders (mechanical, software, field applications engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, marketing & Sales) to define product requirements, engineer, and implement solutions during product life cycle; (3) Experience with new product development using renewable energy technologies (Solar & Wind energy harnessing), AC-DC power electronics (Charge controllers, Inverters, converters, power distribution), Wire assemblies and rechargeable battery systems; (4) Experience planning and conducting product prototype testing, verifying requirements and specifications, and product quality validation procedures, design failure mode analysis and design reviews; and (5) Experience with CAD software like Solidworks, Altium Designer, project management programs for product design evaluation, and using 8D methodologies to identify and resolve technical issues. All experience may have been gained concurrently. Experience must have been acquired after completion of the Bachelor's degree program. 10% domestic travel is required to visit customer locations to act as product expert and technical support.
