Position Overview:

The Director of Meat Procurement provides leadership and overall direction for the company meat procurement function. Drives strategic sourcing efforts for the protein category to secure optimal sourcing opportunities that deliver value, drive savings, increase efficiencies / level of service, assure supply and mitigate sourcing risks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for protein sourcing, aligning with overall company goals.
  • Provide routine and as needed market information and risk program updates to upper management in both formal and informal settings.
  • Evaluate and assess market conditions for beef, pork, and poultry, adjusting procurement strategies to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure a consistent and high-quality protein supply chain.
  • Lead negotiations and contract renewals with major beef, pork, and poultry suppliers.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure delivery of requested beef/raw materials in a timely manner.
  • Stay abreast of day-to-day raw inventory levels and scheduling/production adjustments.
  • Evaluate and maintain appropriate frozen inventory levels.
  • Stay abreast of market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes affecting the protein market.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate and optimize the procurement process.
  • Analyze and assess supplier performance, implementing improvements as needed to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Analyze cost structures, conduct supplier audits, and implement cost-effective measures to enhance overall profitability in protein procurement.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of procurement processes.
  • Develop and mentor talent to support the ongoing and future needs of the business.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Meat Science, Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in procurement and sourcing roles, with a focus on beef, pork, and poultry products.
  • Proven history of successfully negotiating and managing contracts with suppliers, resulting in cost savings and improved terms.
  • Extensive knowledge of global meat markets, industry trends, and supply chain dynamics for protein.
  • Strong understanding of quality control standards and regulations related to beef, pork, and poultry procurement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficient in data analysis and utilizing key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive informed decision-making.
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing market conditions and implement effective risk management strategies in meat procurement.
  • Strong analytical skills along with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Power Point.
