POSITION SUMMARY

The HR Generalist focuses on a broad range of human resource responsibilities in support of and aligned with the College's strategic and operational priorities. The HR Generalist will provide value added services to the College in the primary area of benefits (total rewards) and will also support areas that include but are not limited to talent management, onboarding, employee relations and retention, performance management, labor relations, diversity initiatives, learning & development and policy interpretation.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Provide day-to-day management of all College employee benefits including leave of absence management, providing feedback in benefits package design, coordinating all benefit enrollments and terminations, ensuring timely payment of benefits invoices, and serving as primary contact for vendors, employees, and supervisors.
2. Proactively partners and collaborates with employees on best approaches, practices, policy and procedure to create and sustain a high performing workforce.
3. Keenly assess systemic and ongoing human resource programing and institutional structures through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice to sustain a culture of belonging.
4. Actively partner with managers, staff, and bargaining unit representatives to address a variety of workplace issues and function as a subject matter expert for administrative practices.
5. Provide best practices to intentionally optimize Workday functionality.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Primary point of contact for all leave of absence activity. Respond to and resolve escalated leave of absence matters; communicate with employees regarding leaves. Coordinate and ensure compliance with all procedures/policies & processes related to family and medical leave (FMLA), ADA and/or other leaves.
2. Lead and orchestrate benefits Open Enrollment events including but not limited to benefits website content updates, communications, plan document updates, utilization meetings, benefits fair and test scenarios in Workday.
3. Partner with the benefits broker to ensure plans, practices and policies are compliant with applicable state and federal regulations, are cost effective and meet the strategic goals.
4. Engage in activities to increase JJC employment brand awareness for total rewards, supporting employees and potential employees with accurate and understandable information.
5. Create and deliver training and presentations to diverse audiences and backgrounds, in order to sustain a high performing workforce
6. Monitor compliance. Ensure all documents are appropriately processed, ensuring confidentiality at all times. Process, complete and analyze reports on various types of employee data (vendor billing verification, reconciliation and processing).
7. Support Sr. HR Generalist through participation in appropriate organizational teams/ committees.
8. Coordinate across stakeholders, providing timely and concise communications regarding status of services/projects and pending issues. Educate, mentor and train HR staff on processes and professional practices related to leave management, benefits offerings, total rewards, general HR administration.
9. Will provide backup of the total rewards team to support the administration of compensation and classification for the College.
10. Remain professionally and technically current on all regulatory and compliance related statues, trends, and developments relative to successful execution and performance of the function and position.
11. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
1. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or business-related field; or in lieu of Bachelor's Degree, must have Associate's Degree or equivalent, plus 5 years' experience in at least 1 functional area in Human Resources.
2. Two (2) years of professional experience in HR with a demonstrated proficiency in 2 or more areas of human resources management including but not limited to benefits, compensation, employment, employee relations, rewards & recognition, labor relations, talent acquisition, organizational development, employment law, DEI, HRIS, and learning & development.
3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to create documents and spreadsheets.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills to empathetically interact with all constituents.
5. Ability to accurately collect information in order to understand and assess the clients' needs and situation.
6. Ability to consistently exhibit strong attention to details, confidentiality and situational judgement.
7. Knowledge of employment law and HR policies and practices; local and state laws and regulations; financial/business acumen.
8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. SHRM CP/SCP- PHR/SPHR Certification or similar.
2. Workday experience or training preferred.
3. Experience with change and project management.
4. Demonstrated experience in higher education and administration of bargaining unit policies and procedures.
5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.
3. Ability to travel in state and nationally.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
