The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) seeks a Program Officer for Member Services to support, engage, and enhance the member experience of elected leaders, candidates, volunteers, and members.

This position is responsible for the management of ACRL's fifteen sections, which are Communities of Practice that help members individualize their ACRL experience through specialized programming, conferences, discussion lists, recognition, and focused activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as staff liaison to section executive committees, section membership committee, and Communities of Practice Assembly.
  • Orienting newly elected section leaders.
  • Coordinating section virtual and in-person professional development (e.g., webinars, forums).
  • Reviewing and monitoring annual section budgets.
  • Ensuring that approximately 1,500 section committee appointments are processed.
  • Coordinating the section elections process.
  • Administration of ACRL programs at the ALA Annual Conference.
  • Managing ACRL's presence on ALA's virtual member forum, ALA Connect.
  • Supervision of ACRL Program Coordinator.

This is a regular full-time position based in our Chicago office.

ALA staff are currently working on a hybrid schedule. Please note that although we have a generous telecommuting policy for our employees, we do not have any truly remote positions in states outside of our workplace sites.

ALA currently requires that employees be fully vaccinated as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Proof of vaccination will be required on or before start date.

All offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check and proof of your eligibility to work in the United States.

Starting Salary range negotiable from low-50s, based on relevant experience. ALA has an excellent benefit package that includes flexible work schedules, medical, dental, generous paid vacation, a retirement annuity, and a 35-hour work week. You may also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years previous program management experience.
  • Project management skills to prioritize and meet project deadlines.
  • Fluency with databases, Word, Outlook, and Excel programs, as well as an aptitude for proofreading.
  • Exemplary written and oral customer service and creative thinking abilities to best serve member leaders and ensure they have meaningful engagement opportunities beyond requirements for promotion and tenure.
