POSITION SUMMARY:
The Machine Builder/Technician will assemble precision machine tools and automation from components, plumb hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication devices, mount basic electrical components, perform machine alignment checks and geometry correction during the build and when powered, and install completed machines at customer facilities.  This position requires a combination of technical capability, creativity, and troubleshooting abilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyze assembly drawings and specifications to plan assembly/build in the most efficient and effective manner. Evaluate kitted parts to ensure availability of parts to plan.
  • Working independently or partnered, fasten components or parts together, using hand tools and pneumatic equipment, according to detailed assembly drawings, utilizing technical expertise and understanding of intended end use to ensure appropriate build.
  • Confirm proper function and alignment tolerances of all parts and assemblies during the build process.
  • Set and verify clearance of parts utilizing close tolerance measurement tools.
  • Inspect and test assembly and all accessories for leakage, defect, or functionality, using test equipment.
  • Safely operate an overhead crane and other material handling equipment.
  • Operate machine to verify functionality, machine capabilities, and conformance to specifications.
  • Set up and operate grinding and milling equipment to fabricate or modify components and fixtures.
  • Perform machine alignment utilizing manual calculation methods or through use of laser (will train) and correct alignment through hand-scraping or other alignment techniques.
  • Properly document activities including drawing correction notes, inspection forms, service reports, and data collection for cost analyses.
  • Become certified to install machine at customer facility locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally
  • Ability/willingness to perform other positions, as needed, due to schedule, availability of components, and workload.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  Associates degree in machine maintenance or similarly structured training program or ASE certification preferred, but not required.
  • Clear grasp of hydraulic and pneumatic circuit theory and practice and basic electrical theory and practice.
  • 2+ years mechanical/automotive experience
  • Ability/willingness to travel to install/service machines within the US and internationally.  Travel approximately 15-20% depending on assignment.
  • Self-directed, organized, productive, strong attention to detail, and pride in workmanship are crucial for success.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience in any of the following:  Tool and die machining, CNC programming, robotic programming, hand and power scraping capability, laser alignment, high-performance cutting tool and machining process, customer training, and field service.
  • Ability to furnish own tools 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Regularly lifts up to 25 pounds unassisted.  Regular use of overhead cranes for lifts greater than 50 pounds.
  • Regularly stands for 8 hours.
  • Regularly bends, stoops, reaches and moves.
  • Regularly exerts up to 10 pounds of force and frequently exerts up to 25 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Constantly required to correctly follow written and verbal instructions/prints requiring concentration and mental capability.
  • Regularly utilizes precise, coordinated hand movement and hand/eye coordination.
  • Regularly uses close focus and depth perception.
  • The nature of the work involves contact with various metals and oils.
  • Work environment is bright and temperature controlled.
