Position Description

Responsibilities

The Public Affairs Manager contributes to U.S. Cellular’s success by developing and delivering communications strategies and tactics which enhance and maintain the positioning of U.S. Cellular as a socially responsible company and an outstanding corporate citizen in the communities where we do business. Working closely with all members of the Public Affairs & Communications (PAC) team, the Manager oversees U.S. Cellular’s charitable giving and executive positioning, to maximize the visibility of these initiatives while monitoring community needs and competitors’ activities.

This role also supports the entire department as a key liaison to the Associate Communications team, ensuring that initiatives are communicated broadly within U.S. Cellular. Additionally, the Manager provides editorial support to the Public Affairs section of the company’s web site.

Responsibilities

Oversee the flow of communications for charitable giving, including the following elements:

  • Ensure that priority communities are aware of grant availability and work to identify strategic non profit partnerships

  • Oversee Public Affairs Specialist in documenting submissions, and preparing appropriate applications and reports for review by leadership

  • Direct notification of organizations in partnership with Government Relations

  • Partner with Media Relations to ensure effective visibility for charitable giving in key markets

  • Oversee Phone Donation Program.

  • Assist in managing the company-wide United Way campaign

  • Provide writing support as needed within PAC team and in support of executive leadership as needed, as well as with store collateral related to community involvement.

  • Represent U.S. Cellular at local and civic events in markets as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferably with a concentration in Journalism, English or Communications.

  • 5-7 years experience in corporate giving or marketing communications required, with nonprofit experience a plus.

  • Successful track record of working with cross-functional teams is required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
