We are looking for a U.S.-based commodities columnist, to focus on the agricultural markets. The Columnist will generate original, insightful commentary and fast analysis of major market events and trends, adding a distinctive "voice" to the Reuters News file. The individual will provide expert insight on major market factors, making links to other financial markets, politics and the economy for both a broad readership of financial professionals and front-line traders in the commodities markets.
On a day to day basis, the columnist will have a dual role: to react quickly to breaking news events and major data and to produce agenda-setting columns and blogs. Markets demand a stream of new ideas - the successful candidates may not always be proven right, but they should never be dull. The ideal candidate would have the combined skills of an analyst, an economist and a journalist and in-depth knowledge across the agricultural markets. He or she will work closely with the U.S. commodities and energy editors as well as market reporters and bureaus around the world, sharing ideas to help support best-in-class news coverage as well as a unique and potent personal file of exclusive expert analysis and opinion.
QualificationsSkills:
- Ten years or more covering financial markets as an analyst, economist or journalist
- Expert knowledge on agricultural markets
- Strong, established network of contacts in commodities markets, industry
- Keen, in-depth understanding of the Chinese commodities trade and industry stories
- Ability to write quickly and fluently and to express complex ideas clearly
- Understanding of macro-economics, politics of commodity producer countries, other financial markets and resource company strategy
- Grasp of charting, spreadsheets to illustrate news with graphics
- Ability to communicate clearly on television, develop a persona via blogs, chat-rooms
- Eagerness to work as part of a news team in a demanding, fast-paced environment
