This position is accountable for in depth research, development, and conceptual design of equipment technology and systems for forming and packaging technology. This position is also accountable for working closely with R&D to perform special engineering research, design, development of machines and processes that become enablers in the development of unique new products.



Responsibilities:

  1. Works closely with external Research, Development, and Engineering Resources to advance the state of the art equipment technology.
  2. Applies the latest advancements in technology to develop equipment that become enablers for new product designs, geometries and formulas.
  3. Manages the development and creation of prototype models to evaluate new concepts and minimize risk.
  4. Researches, designs, develops and integrates innovative equipment and systems for new product and packaging initiatives as assigned.
  5. Develops improvements, modifications, and/or new concepts in the design of machinery, manufacturing equipment and systems currently in operation that were developed by Wrigley or commercially obtained.
  6. Performs special engineering research, improvement and construction projects, for global application using both Wrigley designs and commercially available equipment.
  7. Investigates, evaluates and maintains all activities for the respective engineering disciplines
  8. Works closely with the Productivity Team in areas that drive opportunities to increase the speed of equipment, reduce waste, decrease floor space utilization, and generally improve productivity
  9. Communicates project updates/status to management as required.
  10. Performs special projects as assigned by the Sr. Group Leader - Equipment Technology


Requirements:

1. Desired Degree: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering required. MS preferred

2. 3 - 8 years experience in equipment design, packaging equipment experience preferred.

3. Must have operating knowledge of Solid 3-D CAD design and modeling systems, Solid Edge preferred.

4. Has acquired and can apply knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially packaging equipment.

5. Has in depth knowledge of engineering analysis, tolerancing, mechanics, stress/strain, and problem solving. Understanding and utilization of stack-ups & geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T skills)

6. Working knowledge of design tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), TAGUCHI experiments, FEA (Finite Element Analysis), Dynamic Analysis and Design for Assembly (DFA).

7. Be well rounded in basic engineering concepts, especially electro-mechanical devices

8. Good interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing proposals or papers, machine specifications, scope of work , qualification documentation, and working closely with major interfaces.

9. Capable of using PC based applications such as MS Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, etc.

10. Must show a willingness to develop Jr. Engineers, work as a member of a team or as an individual, and to use designs developed outside of Wrigley.

11. Be willing to travel to Wrigley Manufacturing locations world-wide.

12. A year of cross-functional experience in manufacturing would be desirable.
