NATURE AND SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES
The Regional ESH Manager - Americas reports to the Sr. Manager - Global Safety and is responsible for the overall management and direction of Environmental, Safety & Health within the Americas region.
As regional supply chain operations are a significant element of the overall regional risk profile, the Regional ESH Manager is instrumental in identifying, communicating and working closely with the regional supply chain management team. The position holder is responsible for establishing a regional strategy in line with the Global Safety and Americas Supply Chain strategies while ensuring the requirements set forth in the Global ESH standards and local regulatory requirements are met. The Regional ESH Manager will participate in local and regional Operations Business planning to prioritize ESH initiatives to ensure the greatest business value. The position holder is responsible for measuring and managing ESH performance and establishing appropriate initiatives to ensure performance targets are achieved.
The position requires a high level of technical expertise and provides subject matter expertise in regional and local projects to ensure that environmental, safety and health risks are mitigated. The incumbent works as part of a team with regional and location specific engineering, quality and production personnel to ensure that all applicable ESH laws, regulations and standards are taken into account at the design stage of each project. The position holder takes an active role in reviewing both in house and third party engineered equipment early in the design and selection process to ensure that all ESH concerns are adequately addressed by the provision of adequate well engineered, safeguards. In addition, the Regional ESH Manager - Americas supports company environmental initiatives as appropriate.
To establish an effective management approach to environmental, safety & health in the region, the Regional ESH Manager provides leadership and guidance to local ESH managers. The position holder needs to actively build a high performance ESH organization by setting professional goals for local ESH Managers as well as integrate into the performance evaluation process. It is the responsibility of the Regional ESH Manager to establish regular networking and communication opportunities while at the same time continuously developing the regional ESH team.
The Regional ESH Manager is responsible for the deployment of policies and procedures establishing a standardized approach to risk reduction. This includes the identification and implementation of best practice solutions for common applications in the region and shared globally.
The Regional ESH Manager performs regular on site audits of Wrigley facilities. While these audits uncover areas where specific laws, regulations or company standards and policies are not being fully implemented, they also provide the opportunity to work directly with operating management at the location to develop specific plans necessary to correct potential problem areas. Once audits are completed, a full report is developed and shared with local management. It is at this point that actions are developed for corrective measures and time frames established. The position holder also follows up with the specific location to ensure that movement towards completion is being achieved. In addition, audits also help the incumbent to identify new areas where ESH issues are of concern, and to formulate appropriate responses or measures.
In order to offer maximum coverage and benefit to all our facilities worldwide and to provide significant individual development opportunities it may be necessary, as required by the Company for business reasons, for the position holder to travel to other regions to support global initiatives or other ESH accountabilities.
The Regional ESH Manager is equipped with the knowledge necessary to serve as the Company's in house consultant with regards to: regional health & safety laws and regulations, Corporate ESH standards and appropriate related directives; evaluating the potential environmental and health risks associated with new and existing ingredients, performing effective safety engineering evaluations on internally and externally designed equipment and processes. In addition the position holder possesses strong management, written, computer and communication skills to effectively interact with both senior and local regional management, outside regulatory agencies and organizations as well as other personnel at all levels within the organization worldwide. |

ACCOUNTABILITY This position is accountable for ensuring regional compliance with national and local ESH laws and regulations, Corporate ESH Standards and for developing and implementing policies and procedures which are consistent with the Company's vision, mission and values.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES 1. As a member of the Global Safety department, identifies regional ESH issues that are essential for full compliance and conform to existing and planned business development. 2. Establishes and leads a regional ESH group to identify and address common issues to all regional facilities ensuring a standard approach to the implementation of corrective measures. 3. Actively takes lead role for the development of local ESH personnel to ensure an appropriate level of knowledge and skills to deliver ESH objectives and business value 4. Works with regional engineering, Q.A. and production groups to address ESH project issues to ensure that ESH concerns are considered at the design stage and that adequate funds are included within PAR's to prevent costly retrofits. 5. On an annual basis work with factories and the engineering groups to establish accurate regional budgets for compliance with Directives, Laws and regulations, Corporate Standards and other ESH needs. 6. Provides ESH expertise to deliver regional business objectives as well as taking a lead role in incident and crisis management for ESH incidents 7. Provides in house expertise and resources to all Wrigley facilities to maintain a standard approach to problem solving and the introduction of ESH safeguards. 8. Works with regional and factory management to develop regional ESH action plans on an annual basis in order to anticipate estimated expenditure and to allow adequate resources to be allocated to enable completion of established ESH objectives. 9. Act as local insurance/risk management liaison between Corporate Risk Management, regional and factory management to ensure that the company's best interests are represented during audits, inspections and follow up visits. 10. Ensures that all company ESH standards, guidelines, training materials etc., meet regulatory and Company standards and are adequately developed to minimize liability. When necessary develops new ESH Standards, guidelines or other such materials applicable to regional facilities. 11. Regularly collects, analyzes and distributes statistical data related to all ESH incident occurrences within the region to enable local management to prioritize ESH workload and objectives allowing for effective goal and objective setting. 12. Performs on a regularly scheduled basis ESH audits and follow up at all factories and provides updates to enable factory management to implement audit recommendations. 13. Identifies and develops specific performance based metrics to accurately establish the success of local and regional ESH programs and initiatives, and provides feedback and reports to local, Regional and Corporate management on a regular basis. 14. Performs or participates in special projects as assigned by the Sr. Manager - Global Safety or other Senior Managers as requested. |
