The HME Respiratory Therapist provides instruction to patients and/or caregivers on the proper use of equipment and/or respiratory care procedures. In doing so, he/she ensures patients and/or caregivers can effectively operate and maintain equipment, including oxygen therapy, apnea monitoring, suctioning, nasal CPAP and ventilation. Duties also include the following: Inspects and tests equipment to ensure proper operating condition; Provides follow-up documentation on plan of care that contains pertinent information and physician prescriptions; Consults with physician regarding patient treatment, medical condition and home environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge equivalent to that obtained through a Licensed Respiratory Program. RRT, RCP, CRTT, or eligible and meeting National Board of Respiratory Care and state licensing requirements. 1-2 years experience in respiratory therapy. Must have valid Illinois drivers license. Must have a good driving record substantiated by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Must have good communication and customer service skills. A neat, professional appearance. Good organizational skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work at a fast pace and handle multiple tasks.
