The Greatest Determining Factor in Your Life is Your Personal Philosophy
Share
In my recent blog I talked about a personal philosophy that drives your life and career. Previously, I had never thought about having a personal philosophy but I suppose we all have one-- way or another as we live by specific codes of conduct and values. But to be mindful of your philosophy will accelerate your understanding of yourself and the career and life that you want.

I first came across having a personal philosophy when I started to follow the teachings of Jim Rohn an American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker. Sad to say, I learned about him much too late in my life and his. Jim passed away in 2009 but his legacy lives on. Jim said this, “Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life works out.” If you don’t have a personal philosophy, I encourage you to create one and I’d like to help you with that.

The best way to establish a powerful personal philosophy for your life is to objectively review the conclusions you’ve drawn about life. This could include gathering information from personal experiences, assessing your beliefs and values, and determining the trajectory of your life. It was Eleanor Roosevelt who said, “One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes.” I would clarify this further to say, write down what your personal philosophy is so it’s now in your sub-conscious and it can be expressed through your choices and actions! This is a key process step to embedding that philosophy into your life.

Here are examples of personal philosophies of those who are well known:

“My philosophy is that not only are you responsible for your life, but doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.” Oprah Winfrey

“The unexamined life is not worth living.” Socrates

“Lean in.” Sheryl Sandberg

“You want me to do something… tell me I can’t do it.” Maya Angelou

These personal philosophies guide our lives to living our best life, our most authentic life! My own personal philosophy is: “All things are possible.” It drives my mindset, the personal development I pursue in my life and vitalizes the interactions and conversations I have with others.

Your Assignment: Take time to write down your thoughts about your personal philosophy, develop it into a single statement, remembering your philosophy can evolve as your life evolves.
