Position Summary

Responsibilities

Transmission Engineering offers qualified students, in accredited engineering programs leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree, the opportunity to work in various areas of engineering on a rotational basis as part of the engineering cooperative program. Transmission Engineering manages the design and construction of substations, transmission facilities throughout the Duke Energy service area. This department is also responsible for any upgrades to these facilities to ensure safe and reliable operation of the assets. Engineering co-ops will work alongside staff engineers who manage equipment reliability and perform analysis and design of structures, systems and components within Duke Energy's transmission service territory. Rotational positions are available in Transmission Line Engineering, Protection & Controls, Substation Engineering, Siting & Permitting, Asset Management - Technical Support and Project Management.

This co-op position is open for students pursuing degrees in undergraduate studies in Electrical and Civil Engineering. In addition to working within your discipline, you may be asked to work across a multi-engineering discipline platform.

This co-op position will be based in or near Cincinnati, Ohio and may require travel to various facilities within the area.

Working location: Cincinnati, OH

Working Conditions

  • Office and field environment - requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing, and occasional exposure to temperature and noise

Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a four year degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering at an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Ability to work a minimum of three non-contiguous co-op sessions
  • Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Currently enrolled in the co-op program at an accredited college or university, or the ability to be enrolled in the program prior to start date
  • Demonstrates ability to provide the quantity and quality of work necessary to reach an accomplishment
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making
  • Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve a common goal
  • Ability to deliver superior results within an allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work
  • Demonstrates tenacity by remaining persistence in the face of adversity
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in the use of computers, software, and engineering applications
  • Previous engineering work experience
Specific Requirements
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, appropriate footwear and clothing, ear plugs, fall protection, etc.) as needed
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
