Extra Help (900 hours)-Dental Assistant II

The College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago is continuously seeking Extra Help (temporary) Dental Assistants at level II to work on short- term assignments. The Dental Assistant II must be reliable, enthusiastic, and enjoy working in a diverse, clinical/teaching environment. Temporary assignments are limited to 900 hours and are non-benefits eligible. Rate of Pay is $15.23.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Orthodontics

Pediatric Dentistry

Restorative Dentistry

Endodontics

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Ideal candidates will have surgical experience including monitoring patients during moderate sedation, local anesthesia and nitrous oxide procedures. Preferred qualifications include certification in Anesthesia Assistant Monitoring (or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire), experience with airway management (with/without monitoring equipment), and flexibility to adjust to various dental providers preferences for dental instruments and procedures.

Orthodontics
Ideal candidates will be able to perform simple orthodontic procedures such as regular banding and bonding; manipulating dental materials; and retracting and evacuating oral cavity. Preferred qualifications include experience in orthodontic assisting, techniques in bonding, and placing and removing arch wires.

Pediatric Dentistry
Ideal candidates will be able to take radiographs, take and pour impressions, and have nitrous oxide and sedation experience. Preferred qualifications include operating room experience, working with children and/or special needs patients, and the ability to speak and write English and Spanish.

Periodontics
Ideal candidates will have surgical experience and perform dental charting. Preferred qualifications include good oral and written communication skills, dependability, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, busy environment.

Restorative Dentistry
Ideal candidates will be able to provide chair-side surgical and restorative assistance by transferring dental instruments using the four-handed dentistry technique; will know how to adjust equipment to appropriate positions during treatment; will be able to transfer dental materials and aid in the retraction of soft tissues and evacuation of the oral cavity of debris to maintain a clear field.

Endodontics

Ideal candidates will be able to provide chair-side surgical and endodontic assistance to dental students/residents/faculty in the treatment of patients undergoing endodontic treatment by transferring dental instruments using the four-handed dentistry technique. Preferred qualifications include experience in endodontic assisting and the ability to speak and write in English and Spanish.

* Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

1. High school graduate or equivalent


2. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling Two years (24 months) of experience in the categories below:

a. Work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant I level of this series

b. Graduation from an accredited dental assisting school (must upload transcripts)

OR

c. Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board, if required by the employing institution (must upload certificate)

Preferred Qualifications:
*Bilingual Language Skills - The ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in both English and Spanish.
*Experience working with children and/or special needs patients.
