Job Description
The hr specialist will be responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level at the direction of their supervisor. The hr specialist will work closely with the hr recruiting/training coordinator and vp/hr and corporate compliance in supporting all employees. This position assists in carrying out responsibilities in the following functional areas: onboarding, policy research/compliance, and in maintaining accurate employee records/a company database. This position reports to the hr recruiting/training coordinator

As hr specialist you will:
  • Responsible for on-boarding (with supervision from HR staff) on all new exempt & non-exempt employees and providing those employees with information regarding employee orientation process, company benefit programs and all company communications including handbook and HR policies.
  • Assist in Form I-9 and E-Verify compliance, as well as Form I-9 auditing.
  • Assist in coordinating and administrating new employee drug testing and fit for duty evaluations at discretion of supervisor.
  • Maintain human resource information system records and compile reports.
  • Research and stay up to date on federal, state, and local employment and benefits law and regulations, including without limitation: Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), wage and hour laws, etc.
  • Assist in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the affirmative action program; file EEO-1 report annually, maintain other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs and policies.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Perform daily administrative tasks, including vacation tracking, expense reports, supply requisitions, personnel transaction forms, scheduling, and applicant tracking/screening.
  • Assist in recruiting efforts, as needed.
  • Assist in training efforts, as needed.
  • Maintain employment and candidate files.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
To be successful in this position, you will need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources/related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with all McHugh employees, including field and office employees.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, and able to accommodate working at varied hours on little notice as required to meet the hiring needs of the field.
  • The requirements of this position move at a fast pace, and the candidate must be able to prioritize needs, remain calm under pressure, and multi-task.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized and technically sound.
  • Capable of analyzing the big picture; thinking ahead and problem solving; and knowing when to escalate questions/concerns, and to whom.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
