    Overview

    The time is right to join HNTB! Our Westbrook office has an immediate opening for a motivated and experienced Structural Engineer III for our growing Northern New England Office.
    This position can be located in our Westbrook, ME or Concord / Manchester, NH office locations.

    Job Summary

    Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

    Essential Responsibility
    • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
    • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
    • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Additional Responsibilities
    - Structural analysis, design and detailing of highway and railroad bridges and other transportation related structures and providing complete design efforts.
    - Responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs.
    - Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
    - Coordinates design development and/or assist in providing technical direction to the scope of projects; provides technical expertise on bridge projects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contracts for construction.
    - Develops project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities and cost estimates.
    - Investigative hand and computer based analyses in support of assigned design tasks.
    - Prepares and checks design drawings and/or specifications.
    - Reviews and checks engineering work completed by others.
    - Construction phase monitoring and inspection.
    - Bridge structural inspection.
    - Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
    Basic Qualification
    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    5 years relevant experience
    Preferred Qualification/Skills
    - Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maine, or ability to obtain within 6 months
    - Master's degree in Engineering
    - MaineDOT, Maine Turnpike and NHDOT experience
    - Experience working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative engineering environment
    - Experience designing bridge and/or structural assignments, including complex structures
    - Experience using bridge design and analysis software such as CSI Bridge, CONSPAN, RC-Pier, Midas, STAAD, or similar programs
    - Knowledge of MicroStation and InRoads software and/or AutoCAD.
    - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    General Work Conditions
    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client's job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
