Job Summary:

We are seeking an intern for a hands-on experimental science position. This role will contribute toward development of assays using Hyb & Seq chemistry, a novel single-molecule hybridization-based next generation sequencing (NGS) technology. This individual will assist in research and development of assays and reagents and will work closely with technical leads and fellow bench scientists to prepare and test reagents using an automated fluidic sample processor and multi-color digital imager.

Essential Duties:

• Perform 80-90% bench work on specified projects
• Organize and communicate results to supervisor and colleagues verbally and in writing
• Work cooperatively in a product-oriented team environment
• Deliver results under tight timelines
• Use molecular biology protocols to develop new assay reagents
• Operate automated prototype genomic instruments to collect raw imaging data
• Transfer/organize raw imaging data for processing
• Organize and manipulate data in Excel
• Assist in managing sample and reagent inventory for studies

Requirements:

• B.S. (or with 1 year of graduation) in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering or a related discipline
• Molecular biology/biochemistry laboratory experience
• Strong analytical skills with excellent record-keeping (electronic and written) habits
• Organized, detailed-oriented and able to effectively communicate results verbally and in writing
• Experience with RNA and DNA sample prep and other of nucleic acid methods is a plus
• Familiarity with running automated scripts to control laboratory instrumentation is a plus
