Our office in Waukesha, WI is seeking an Senior Hardware Engineer.


The Senior Hardware Engineer is responsible for providing engineering input to the product development projects assigned to him/her including interfacing with the cross functional team consisting of engineering (hardware, software, mechanical), operations (industrial engineering, production, and material procurement), sourcing, quality, service, and marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop board level hardware
  • Research and select hardware components
  • Design embedded circuits using microprocessors/microcontrollers
  • Design embedded circuits encompassing both analog and digital circuitry
  • Design circuits with both switched and linear power supplies
  • Create schematics using CAD tools
  • Supervise PCB layout; specify component placement, analog/digital, high speed, power planes layout guidelines
  • Troubleshoot designs to the component level
  • Use test firmware/software to verify the hardware
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Use Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) techniques
  • Use simulation tools such as PSpice
  • Supports product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Develop and maintain documentation, such as test procedures, manuals, etc.
  • Apply engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes
  • Use lab equipment including oscilloscopes, data acquisition equipment, and power supplies
  • Act as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers
  • Travel to other Generac facilities as necessary


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline;
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience;


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in design of industrial/automotive electronic control systems and assemblies
  • Experience with Freescale PowerPC and/or Microchip PIC microcontrollers
  • Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and layout
  • Experience with designing battery charging circuitry


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to write test firmware to test hardware designs
  • Experience with designing battery charging circuitry
  • Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing
  • RF/wireless controls knowledge
  • Conduct FMEA/DFMEA analysis
  • Experience with design release process
  • Knowledge of PID loops
  • Communication hardware interface knowledge, such as RS232, RS485, CAN, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, Flash, EEPROM, ADC/DAC, WiFi/Bluetooth
  • Design to meet agency compliance such as UL, CSA, NEC, CE, FCC, NFPA, EPA
  • Familiarity with simulation software such as Matlab Simulink
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
