Thornton Tomasetti provides engineering design, investigation and analysis services to clients worldwide on projects of every size and level of complexity. We are a growing 1500+ person firm with 10 practices: Structural Engineering, Forensics, Applied Science, Renewal, Property Loss Consulting, Construction Engineering, Protective Design and Security, Facade Engineering, Sustainability and Transportation. We work on everything from landmark buildings to small-scale specialty structures, from the historic to the high performing, while balancing multiple objectives, including form, function, schedule, sustainability, constructability and budget. Thornton Tomasetti is seeking eager, independent structural/civil student intern to assist with a variety projects within the Property Loss Consulting practice, ranging from forensic investigations to design consulting services. Projects include engineering and architectural services for buildings and infrastructure systems throughout the greater New York City area--and sometimes beyond.

Structural/Civil Intern

Interns will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of staff engineers and architects to provide assistance on a variety of tasks for active projects.

While project work can vary greatly from day to day, typical tasks may include the following:

* On-site survey, investigation, and documentation of building conditions

* 2D drafting in AutoCAD

* Analysis and design of architectural or structural systems, with possible assistance on mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or plumbing work

* Research and analysis of hazards and risks

* Review of received documents

* Code research

* Report preparation

* Assistance in project administration

* Construction observation

Students should be familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and CAD programs (i.e. AutoCAD). Familiarity with any of the following programs is a plus, but is not required:

* Revit

* SketchUp

* Bluebeam

* Mathcad

* Structural analysis programs
