JOB SUMMARY: The Surface Designer is responsible for designing and developing components and systems in partnership with the Chore/Portable Product design group. This position will collaborate with the Industrial Design and Engineering teams to create innovative new product solutions for the portable generator, pressure washer and other engine powered tool categories. This role interprets concept sketches in creating parametric CAD models without compromising the intended aesthetic, structural form is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



Develops design concepts and production designs in Pro-E/Creo and/or SolidWorks.

Creates parametric surface models that are adaptable to changes as design evolves
.
Translates 2D industrial design sketches into surface models that capture industrial design intent and are manufacturing feasible.

Coordinates and integrates engineering information in the Industrial Design Studio

Ensures designs are compatible with the assembly process and are serviceable.

Optimizes the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments.

Supports creation of component specification, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents.
Creates and develops component and system requirements and specifications.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical demands:

Minimal Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Design technology, Industrial Design or related discipline or equivalent experience

5 years of experience in design and engineer delivering product concepts to market

4+ years of experience with 3D computer design (Pro-E/Creo and SolidWorks)

4+ years of experience with mass produced consumer products

4+ years of experience with plastic injection molding process and tooling design


Preferred Qualifications:


Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP

Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Project, Excel)

Prior experience partnering with cross-functional teams on product development


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Knowledge of metal fabrication for production; rendering package to visualize concepts; and Rapid Prototyping output and downstream fabrication methods.

Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Good problem-solving, analytical and mechanical skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, take an ownership approach for assigned area of responsibility.

Ability to prioritize and stay organized in a changing environment; Strong project management and time management skills and the ability to support multiple projects concurrently.

Solid attention to detail.

Strong understanding of parametric surface modeling concepts.

Ability to work well with and collaborate across industrial design and engineering teams.

Understanding of manufacturing requirements and how they affect component designs.



Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
