Generac Power Systems - Work with the leader in the power industry and begin your exciting career today! Our Corporate headquarters in Waukesha, WI is seeking an Industrial Design Co-Op to join our Corporate Marketing Team.

The Industrial Design Co-op is fully embedded into the ID team and contributes to every step of the industrial design process, from concept generation through final implementation and the ability to communicate ideas through outstanding visualization skills. This is a chance to work in a small studio guiding the brand strategy and new product development for a global company. You will learn all facets of the design while understanding the impact you have on real-world operations. An ideal candidate has practical problem solving skills and is driven to develop thoughtful design solutions that create meaningful user experiences. We look for strong visualization skills and a strong graphic aesthetic to read from your portfolio. Hands-on mechanical aptitude is also preferable.




  • Assist in all phases of product development, translating innovation to concepts and working with project teams to bring concepts to production.
  • Execute against VBL and brand strategies at a product and category level while constantly ensuring brand and product guidelines are being met.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergrad degree in Industrial Design.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and 3D software (Fusion or Solidworks preferred) -- Coursework included.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates wide-ranging concept exploration, innovative solutions, a clear process and is visually appealing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent sketching & visualization skills (on paper and on screen using a Wacom tablet).
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Good balance of aesthetic sensitivity & mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to analyze / research / identify and solve problems.
  • Great communication skills (visual, verbal, and written).
  • The ability to think quickly and problem-solve on the spot with a maturity that maintains a positive team environment.
  • Passionate about design and a desire to learn.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
