Job Posting Title: Human Resources Business Partner

SUMMARY
This position is part of a HR Shared Services Team with particular focus on the delivery of a full spectrum of human resource programs. The HR Business Partner will be responsible for providing HR leadership and guidance to the Air & Sea division in the Itasca, IL branch. The HRBP will oversee the administration of hiring, retention, termination, personnel records, legal compliance, compensation, benefits, payroll, orientation and training as well as additional administrative functions. The HRBP will be responsible for ensuring that the needs of the sites are being met and work to appropriate his/her time accordingly in coordination with site management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements, interprets and administers personnel and labor relations programs, projects, tasks, or initiatives that align with company goals and objectives. Responsibilities include employment, employee relations, labor relations, compensation administration, performance management, benefits, recognition, training and planning of staffing requirements and workforce communications. Must be visible and accessible. May include site visits at various times of the year.
  • Effectively administers existing programs in accordance with policies and procedures including Equal Employment Opportunity, and Affirmative Action compliance. Manages monitors and ensures administration and compliance with company policies, practices and procedures that affect the organizational unit such as employee safety, workers' compensation and OSHA compliance.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to employees, peers, and management on workforce goals and objectives by sharing best practices. Provides clear, effective, timely and constructive feedback on interviewing techniques, effective labor relations, employee communications, new hire orientation, and training programs. Responsible for supervisory training, supervisory skill improvement, and excellence in supervision on a continuum.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and terminate assigned personnel. Provides clear, effective, timely and constructive feedback to employees, peers and management on interviewing techniques, effective labor relations, employee communications, new hire orientation, and training programs.
  • Manages human resource administration to ensure the effective implementation of procedures regarding new hires, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, grievance process, and terminations. Ensures that personnel files are properly maintained.
  • Manages all specific unit activities including frequent contact with inter-organizational and outside agency representatives concerning operations or scheduling of specific phases of projects or programs. Participates in meetings with internal and external representatives concerning specific human resource projects or operations including due diligence and assimilation processes.
  • Uses internal-external customer feedback to monitor the status of projects and to identify problems with work processes. Confirms mutual understanding with customers to develop and implement process improvements that improve the quality, quantity and timeliness of assigned tasks.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business or a related field and 7 years' experience working in Human Resource field required or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Must have strong employee relations and performance management experience - minimum 5 years. Must have strong recruitment experience - minimum 5 years.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Computer Skills

  • Strong proficiency in basic MS Office applications
  • Experience using HRIS systems (SAP Success Factors a plus)
  • Experience using helpdesk ticket systems (Zendesk a plus)

Other Skills

  • General working knowledge of human resources, management skills, problem solving, conflict resolution, consulting skills, decision making skills, financial, analytical skills, and influence skills.
  • Knowledge of ERISA, employment, and labor laws and regulations required.
  • Strong conceptual, strategic and visionary skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills with the ability to motivate others.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a part of a team with enthusiasm, initiative and creativity.
  • Able to attend to detail, work under pressure, and prioritize.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with compassion and dignity.
  • Must be able to deal with ambiguity, cope with change and flexible with shifting priorities.

  • Bilingual English / Spanish

  • Recognized HR Professional Certification (SHRM) preferred


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is generally sedentary, with no specific need for physical coordination or effort. May require physical effort associated with using the computer to access information, or occasional standing, walking, lifting needed to carry out everyday activities. Hours can be extensive as well as occasionally staggered for multi-shift access. While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses his/her hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. The employee uses computer and telephone equipment. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision and distance vision.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
