The (OSP) Field Specialist responsibilities will include the planning, design, permitting, and documentation of communications infrastructure, with an emphasis on OSP fiber optic cable infrastructure projects. Extensive knowledge of the standards and specifications of utility Right-of-Way owners, utility owners and OSP construction practices for fiber optic cable plant is required. This position requires in-person site visits and interacting with utilities, IOU's and local municipalities.


  • Broad experience designing Telecom Outside Plant with a thorough understanding of right-of-way, DOT, and local municipal permitting.
  • Coordinates permitting and pole applications, joint-trenching, and make-ready for utility poles.
  • Working knowledge of Fiber infrastructure design and construction principles.
  • Familiarity with rules for electric facilities, construction, and public Rights-of-Way.
  • Conducts pole surveys and geographic information systems (GIS) surveys to update and maintain OSP databases.
  • Travels to customer sites to procure OSP project information, determining equipment requirements and best routing of lines as appropriate.
  • Designs and prepares detailed work plans for construction or rearrangement of existing fiber optic cable, aerial, underground lines, and buried feeders.
  • Ensures compliance with industry specifications including but not limited to gathering pole data and obtaining permitting and rights of way.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Company, OSP Construction Managers, contractors, public utility companies, and customers.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow complex maps, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Coordinate and obtain access and ROW (right-of-way) agreements when required.
  • Function as the company representative with other utility and state/local entities for field meetings.
  • Familiarity with NESC guidelines.
