Summer 2021 Intern Opportunity.

 

Aerojet Rocketdyne offers a complete line of propulsion products from launch vehicles to missile defense to advanced hypersonic propulsion. These are used in a variety of government and commercial applications, including the main engines for the Space Shuttle, Atlas and Delta launch vehicles and missile defense systems. Mission Architecture & Systems Analysis is looking for an undergraduate or graduate student in Engineering to work as a summer intern. The successful candidate will support senior engineers in the performance of technical and program-related tasks. Work assignments will support various systems analysis activities such as: 

75% - Perform thermodynamic design of liquid rocket engines and/or air-breathing engines to define propulsion cycles that meet functional vehicle requirements. During the development activities of these propulsion systems the systems analyst will primarily conduct performance analyses and evaluate the steady state and transient operation of these propulsion systems. Duties may include evaluation of ground test and flight data to determine engine health and conformance to performance requirements. 


25% - Duties will include creating, maintaining and using math models of propulsion systems and/or vehicle systems which characterize the thermodynamic, aerodynamic, fluid dynamic, mechanical and flight operation of these systems.

Candidate must be currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related major and have completed their sophomore year of study.  Prefer candidates who have completed their junior year of study and higher or in a Masters program.

 

Strong skills in thermodynamics, propulsion design/analysis, system engineering, a PLUS. Experience with NPSS, a PLUS.

 

Solid written and oral communication skills are required. Skills in using standard MS Office tool suite on the Windows operating system.  Candidate must be self-motivated, have good attention to detail, and have demonstrated teamwork skills.  Solid academic track record of success.

 

Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information.  Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

U.S. Citizenship, Permanent Resident, or other status as a U.S. Person is required.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, climbing and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
