Job Description

United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Process Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to:

PROCESS MANAGER MINE ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT
-This position reports directly to the Area Manager or the Process Coordinator of Mine Engineering and Development. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
-Providing technical service on matters relating to taconite mining operations.
-Utilizing mine planning software to develop mine plans of various lengths that satisfy the blending needs of the plant while considering continued viability of the mine.
-Creation and updating of detail reserve models based on geologic and quality information. This also may include the planning of additional diamond drill hole locations to best define the reserve.
-Complete blasthole cutting logging, high wall and bench face mapping and blasthole cutting sampling. Compiling and analyzing blasthole data in conjunction with other geologic information to determine ore and waste boundaries and blending requirements.
-Developing plans that achieve and maintain predictable, stable levels of operating performance.
-Developing detailed production schedules for equipment fleets and key activities to extract maximum value from the resource incorporating data from operations.
-Aligning production schedules with the Maintenance Work Management schedules managing the development of the production of the (week +1) schedule and subsequent hand over to Production.
-Managing the allocation of resources to sustain functional excellence including participation in project definition and delivery conducting design for support infrastructure and activities, including roads, ramps, dumps, and developing comprehensive de-watering plans or other projects.
-Employing management skills to direct and coordinate the efforts of employees assigned to survey crews and mine operations.
-Applying education/technical knowledge and utilizing problem solving skills and continuous improvement knowledge in the processing of iron ore while working closely with members of management and related departments to ensure an efficient productive facility. This position is also responsible for administering the U. S. Steel Safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
REQUIREMENTS:
-This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering, Geology, Geological Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
- The position also requires 2-7 years of applicable work experience.

However, candidates with equivalent experience, relevant training or education are encouraged to apply. Level and salary will be based on experience.

Preferred Skills

The preferred candidate will be knowledgeable in taconite mining and have a strong geological/mineralogy background and demonstrated knowledge and experience with AutoCAD, GPS surveying instruments, mine planning software, truck dispatch software, mine mapping, and be knowledgeable in taconite mining, concentrating, and pelletizing operations as well as have a background in mining or a related industrial field. Skills and experience building block models, long-term plans, and life-of-mine plans utilizing Hexagon/MineSight mine planning software is a plus. In addition, the successful candidate must be independent with the ability to make sound operating and mechanical decisions with little input from other managers.
