The Boston Life practice of Milliman, Inc. is looking for motivated and qualified applicants with a recent Fellow designation from the Society of Actuaries (FSA) to join our team as a Consulting Actuary. This newly created position will focus on financial reporting, reinsurance and strategic opportunities related to offshore markets such as Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. This position will involve leading a variety of assignments and will provide excellent opportunities for professional development and advancement.

The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter, who possesses a deep understanding of US financial reporting for life insurance and annuity products. Superior problem-solving skills, strong communication and organizational skills are also key for success.

The Boston Life practice is a small but growing group of actuaries with life and annuity expertise including financial reporting and other regulatory reviews, financial modeling, capital management and mergers & acquisitions support. Our office is located in Wakefield, Massachusetts, which is accessible by car. Note, the job location is currently remote, but expectation is that employee would be available to work in the Wakefield, Massachusetts office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will be involved in the following types of projects:

  • Financial reporting, such as valuation and appointed actuary support, methodology reviews, supporting clients both domestically and internationally.
  • Financial modeling to support clients with technical needs. Work may involve leading the construction of appraisal models, analyzing and communicating results to clients.
  • Regulatory reviews, such as reserve and capital requirements, assumptions and calculations.
  • Manage projects, including providing direction to actuarial staff.
  • Actively support and participate in the continuing effort to develop a Bermuda "center of excellence" within Milliman by staying current with offshore regulatory developments, market and reinsurance trends.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAL

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics or other relevant field
  • FSA designation

EXPERIENCE / SKILLSET

  • Extensive knowledge of US Statutory and GAAP accounting (5+ years of experience in financial reporting).
  • Innovative, creative problem solver who uses critical thinking skills to solve business problems and map solutions.
  • Technical skills such as Excel / VBA macros, actuarial software experience a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, deadlines, and workloads.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with staff (including other Milliman offices), clients and other third parties.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (both domestic and international) occasionally.

COMPENSATION

We offer competitive pay. The base salary for the position will vary with the candidate's qualifications and experience. In addition, we offer a significant performance-based bonus plan, profit sharing and generous employee benefits.
