PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Manage all financial, legal and medical billing, and claims processing functions for the Casualty Management department throughout the U.S. to assist in minimizing corporate loss exposures from incidents involving employee injuries or third party injuries and/or property damage that may significantly impact corporate results. Develop, recommend and implement strategies for protecting the company's financial interests in casualty lawsuits and claims against the company and in pursuing recovery claims for the company's casualty losses. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES * Provide advice and guidance to director and senior management on claims management and related financial procedures, processes and protocols, including accruals, budgeting, payments, and reporting; * Produce month-end reserve and stats reports, journal entries and quarterly short-term/long-term reserve analysis; * Manage, maintain and increase utility of claims module within the Incident Management module; assist claims team with issues using claims module and outside data systems, such as ISO; * Manage and maintain Medicare reporting; * Oversee maintenance of departmental files stored remotely; * Confer regularly with claims managers and representatives to assess pending claims status and progress in achieving current department objectives and goals and to assist in processing claim payments and receivables; * Assist outside attorneys retained to represent the company in personal injury and property damage lawsuits brought for, or against, the company; * Coordinate with regulatory group and internal audit to provide information needed to comply with periodic regulatory reporting requirements; * Assist in processing payments to injured employees' medical providers for work-related injuries, and manage, document and reconcile supplemental medical payments made by contractor; * Process all outside counsel and other Casualty Management-related invoices every month, ensuring necessary approvals are secured and confirming appropriate payments are made to outside legal vendors; * Process settlements, and manage working fund checks; * Other responsibilities as required, including but not limited to manage general mailbox daily, update litigation calendar weekly, disseminate RRB RUIA lien reports and monthly RRB annuity reports, maintain duty calendar and issue weekly duty roster. POSITION REQUIREMENTS * High school degree required; college degree preferred; * Training and experience in the following areas: * Working knowledge of U.S. casualty litigation management, with knowledge of managing Federal Employer's Liability Act claims preferred; * Substantial railroad experience with solid understanding of interactions between railroad claims and other departmental functions; * Significant experience with legal billing, preferably including electronic billing, claim accruals and payment, and legal matter and other related document management; * Working knowledge of SAP (ERP and Business Intelligence modules) and Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and Outlook preferred; * Strong interpersonal communication skills; * Strong written communication skills preferred; * Significant management of interpersonal relationships, including ability to adapt to a variety of decision-making processes and to communicate with a wide range of personality types.
