Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Research and Development you will provide technical expertise and leadership over tomato products portfolio to teams to directly influence the achievement of business objectives. Research, conduct experiments, gather data, develop preliminary findings and prepare written reports to develop new tomato products beginning at conception through successful commercialization. Manage or mentor technical activities of other professionals and specialists with complete project accountability, assuring execution of assigned projects. Drive project timelines, create technical proposals and reports and makes recommendations.

You Will:
  • Provide technical leadership over tomato products portfolio
  • Develop new tomato products beginning at the concept phase through successful commercialization
  • Develop programs for diced tomatoes, tomato paste, pasta sauces, ketchup, and other tomato forms
  • Design and conduct plant trials and new product start-ups
  • Partner with plant quality and agricultural operations regarding planning for tomato fresh pack season
  • Plan, prioritize, and complete tasks
  • Create product development schedules that are required to meet project timelines
  • Maintain accurate and complete records
  • Work with pilot plant equipment
  • Use online specification system
  • Design and execute experiments and prepare results for review
  • Develop new products prototypes
  • Manage individual tasks and works
  • Guide product cuttings, plant trials, and testing
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including the cleaning of equipment, utensils and work surfaces
  • Manage other food scientists or technologists
  • Travel up to 25%

You Have:
  • BS in Food Science
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Thorough understanding of food science
  • Experience with tomato products
  • Leadership and proactive attitudes in approaching technical solutions to business and market issues
  • Ability to effectively influence and interact with others to accomplish research goals
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Great relationship skills to achieve partnership and collaboration
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge in food product design, formulation, ingredient functionality and interaction, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization
  • Experience with food industry standards of quality and foods safety, and FDA regulations
  • Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food
