Milliman's Chicago-Milwaukee Health office is seeking an actuarial professional with a background in Medicare to join our growing practice. Milliman is the leader in consulting to entities participating in Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan programs, including health plans, CMS, and providers. The Medicare Advantage line of business is an exciting and growing area in which we are looking to add to our consulting team. Common projects include bid development, experience analysis, feasibility studies, formulary design, contracting support, strategic competitive analysis, and related analytic support.

The RoleActuarial Managers perform data analysis using Excel, SAS, and proprietary Milliman programs to assist with consulting for various health insurance work areas. While this role will include substantial work in Medicare, Actuarial Managers will also have the opportunity to work in other areas, such as Commercial / ACA, Medicaid, Long Term Care, Pharmacy, and more. Such consulting activities include Pricing, Reserving, Financial Projections, and Mergers and Acquisitions. Actuarial Managers are also responsible for reviewing the work of others, assisting with research and product development, and progressing with actuarial exams to attain the Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation.
Actuarial Managers are responsible for doing some technical work while delegating the majority of that work to analysts to help meet client needs. Actuarial Managers are expected to teach and train analysts who are working on the projects for which the Actuarial Managers is responsible. Actuarial Managers typically work on five to seven projects simultaneously and are expected to add insight into the technical direction of a project, check the initial reasonableness of the solution and create client communications for review by Consultants. Client interaction generally includes data collection, project updates and answering basic technical questions.
Within a project team, consultants, managers, and analysts coordinate their efforts to deliver client reports and deliverables. Consultants are responsible for building relationships with clients, directing projects, and presenting results. Managers work directly with analysts by reviewing work, answering questions, and developing client correspondence. Analysts are responsible for the majority of the technical work, which may include analyzing data, completing actuarial calculations, developing and utilizing actuarial models, and implementing software solutions.

Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience, exams passed, and skills. Managers participate in a bonus program that provides compensation based on exceeding predefined billable work hours.
Location: This position is for the Chicago-Milwaukee (combined) Health Practice. Employees have the option to work out of the Chicago or Milwaukee office. All aspects of this position are identical between both locations (types of projects, organizational structure, exam program, bonus program, etc.). Our office locations work together as one team with the only difference being physical location. All locations follow local guidelines for COVID-19, and may require remote work for a period of time.
