Promet Steel, Inc is a multi-facility steel service center that specializes in the sale and processing of flat rolled steel products. Promet Steel is seeking a professional individual who is a self starter with strong multi tasking skills to fill a full time overhead crane operator position in our Chicago facility.

Crane Operator / 3rd Shift

• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures of Promet Steel and operates within these guidelines.
• Must be certified as an overhead crane operator as well as fork truck operator.
• Willing to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment while performing primary and secondary objectives for position.
• Must take a team oriented approach and be willing to take direction from your supervisor when reassignment to other areas is needed (i.e. slitter, packaging, receiving, loading, warehouse upkeep, etc.).
• Operation of overhead crane(s) within the safety policies and procedures when loading or unloading trucks. Operation of the fork truck within the safety policies and procedures when moving coils.
• Meets or exceeds daily objectives (85-95 movements within an 8 hour work day) using the overhead crane or fork truck (as needed).
• Demonstrates good housekeeping by maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Operation of overhead crane(s) within the safety policies and procedures when storing, stacking, blocking and wedging coils within the coil field.
• Knowledge of all paperwork that pertains to loading, unloading and receiving of master coils.
• Ability to follow direction from Receiving and Shipping using the required paperwork to perform the task.
• Communicate timely and effectively with all employees, respective supervisor, operations manager and the plant manager.
• Must be able to band coils as needed to assure safety is being met when stacking/storing master coils in the coil field.
• Performs daily inspection of the overhead crane(s) per policy. If problems are found after inspection, do not use the equipment and notify your supervisor or plant manager immediately.
• Ability to unload trucks in a safe and timely matter. May be required to load trucks as well in the absence of the loader.
• Knowledge of all lifting devices used at Promet Steel, Inc. and their respective maximum weight limits.

Salary: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour with a $250 signing bonus
