Job Description

POSITION: Superintendent - Concrete
The concrete superintendent is directly responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and directing field activities on concrete construction projects and the concrete portions of general building projects. The project superintendent must be able to work independently as well with other project team members and subcontractors. This position reports directly to the senior vice president of concrete operations.

As Concrete Superintendent you will:
  • Be responsible for concrete operations, manpower and hiring with respect to the trades. This includes interviewing, hiring, supervising, disciplining and terminating employees. Coordinate hiring with Vice President of Concrete Operations to staff projects. 
  • Develop and implement plans of various formwork systems for slabs, columns, walls and core.  Coordinate with Concrete Project Manager to make sure the systems are engineered and approved by the Engineer of Record for loads imposed on the base building structure.  Exercise discretion and judgment to resolve issues as needed.
  • Work with Concrete PM to prepare written contracts and PO's for all formwork systems. Participate in negotiations related to these items as necessary. Manage contracts within budget and ensure that the schedules are met.  
  • Ensure the drawings and changes are drawn correctly and implemented in the field. (PM is counterpart)  
  • Coordinate with the MEP trades to ensure embeds are installed as required by contract documents.  (PM is counterpart)
  • Be responsible for closeout of formwork suppliers. Responsible for ensuring that rented materials are kept safe and returned undamaged. Responsible for documentation of the returned materials and the payment of bills associated with the returned materials.
  • Be responsible for making sure cost-coding and jobsite quantities are reported to the main office accurately and per the budget cost-code items.
  • Be responsible for setup of Concrete trades' change trailers and other temporary facilities.
  • Have other duties and responsibilities as required.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Minimum of eight years construction management and/or craft supervision experience in similar facility construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods); craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations; engineering, cost control schedules and safety required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills essential.
