Reports to | AVP Student Affairs with direction by Coordinator of Tutoring and/or Director of Access and Disability Services |
Essential Functions and Responsibilities | * Provide synchronous and asynchronous tutoring to students, both in-person and virtually, in group and individual settings * Recognize student needs and abilities to engage students' diverse learning styles. * Engage with students to help them understand key concepts, answer student questions, and clarify areas of concern * Provide students with resources, study strategies, and skills to encourage independent learning * Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions * Create and/or curate resources that address frequently-covered topics and questions, including online resources, workshops, videos, etc.. * Communicate student progress with appropriate student affairs personnel and/or faculty * Guide student development and refer students to MCC resources as necessary * Attend tutor training and complete observation hours * Assist in training new tutors |

Other Required Qualifications | * Knowledge of course content in tutoring subject area |
Desired Qualifications | * Associate's Degree or above from a regionally accredited institution in the content area (or closely related field) being tutored or previous work experience * Two or more years of prior tutoring experience |
Skills and Specifications | * Strong content knowledge in tutoring subject area * Proficiency in cultural awareness, information literacy, and serving a diverse group of students (generational, traditional and non-traditional) * Good judgment skills * Good communication and listening skills * Strong interpersonal skills * Ability to understand and work with students from diverse backgrounds * Basic computer skills (MS Office, Google Docs, Canvas, video conferencing) * Adaptive to different academic levels and needs * Open and encouraging, yet appropriately assertive * Ability to create and share examples with students * Punctual and dependable * Takes directions well, but also offers ideas * Willingness to learn new concepts and accept constructive feedback * Strong organizational skills * Available day and/or evening hours * Available to tutor on campus or remotely * Commitment and respect for diversity, equity, inclusiveness and the MCC Behaviors of Excellence * Commitment to the College mission, vision, values, and goals * Ability to perform all of the essential functions, skills, and specifications of the position |
