Sr. Plant Accountant

Itasca, IL

Position Overview:

The Sr. Plant Accountant supports two manufacturing locations, Itasca and Addison. The key activities of the position include the following items to support the Plant Controller:

  • Manage and support all general accounting, cost accounting, and fixed asset activities;
  • Analyze and report on financial, operational results;
  • Prepare periodic financial plans, forecasts and outlooks;
  • Provide direct support to plant management team in a variety of financial, accounting and operational areas;
  • Support and maintain internal controls functions of the plant;
  • Maintains intercompany relationships with other divisional operating locations and offices.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Management / Analysis:

  • Provide financial direction / support to site manager / core management teams
  • Prepare financial analysis to monitor spending in key areas (labor, scrap, spending, inventory, etc.)
  • Maintain active participation in plant operations
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls and ensure compliance with division policies and procedures
  • Participate and facilitate cost reduction / elimination programs / ideas

Reporting / Accounting:

  • Accurate and timely financial reporting of plant results (monthly, quarterly, and annually)
  • Assist in the development of annual plant budget and periodic forecasts
  • Input and review product segment statistical allocations
  • Support physical inventory reporting and cycle count analysis
  • Prepare various financial models, as appropriate; prepare and review various account reconciliations
  • General ledger maintenance/transactional processing/journal entry creation

Specific Duties:

  • Gather information relative to cost/benefit analysis and other plant financial initiatives
  • Analyze plant labor, scrap, operational spending and inventory transactions for optimal manufacturing levels
  • Participate in month-end close activities (create/post financial/statistical journal entries, prepare standard financial and operational reports, analyze/explain operational activities/related variances, analyze/report monthly plant performance)
  • Monitor and review asset additions, transfers and disposals. Ensure complete and accurate supporting documentation
  • Process debit/credit memo transactions (customer returns/claims, scrap/regrind shipments) and intercompany transfers
  • Maintain statistical model for product segment allocations and analysis
  • Prepare annual and quarterly operational budgets and profit projections
  • Prepare sales and use and other tax returns as applicable and provide support for federal and state income/property tax returns, as applicable
  • Participate in customer and segment profitability reviews
  • Review Freight Payable on a monthly basis
  • Prepare and support preparation of capital expenditure justifications
  • Assist the Plant Controller as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree In Accounting or Finance
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Plant Manufacturing and cost accounting experience, preferred
  • Functional SAP experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and Windows applications
  • Outstanding communication skills - interpersonal, presentation, written, and verbal
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to prioritize work, set goals, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities
  • Travel 5-10%
