Job Description
Systems and Electronic Resources Librarian June 08, 2021

The Systems & Electronic Resources Librarian will be responsible for the management of the librarys systems, electronic resources, and maintenance of the librarys website.

Responsibilities

  • SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION: Administer, configure, and optimize the library services platforms. Includes maintenance, upgrades, enhancements, report generation, troubleshooting, security enhancements, and documentation. Maintain timely, accurate data about the librarys resources in a variety of systems (e.g. Alma, OCLC, A-Z database list, EZ Proxy, etc.). Act as liaison to CARLI and vendors for administration of systems & e-resources.
  • E-RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: Responsible for the currency and accuracy of the librarys electronic resources holdings in all relevant systems, including the integrated library system, library catalog, discovery layer, and website. Work with vendors/publishers to solve technical issues that affect user services and to identify strategies for enhancing electronic resource accessibility.
  • ACQUISITION: Order, activate, customize, review, and renew/cancel licensing agreements for databases, e-books, journals (electronic & print), streaming media, and other web-based content. Monitor budget for e-resource content expenditures.
  • EVALUATION: Evaluate e-resources by analyzing and interpreting usage statistics and other assessment data to support renewal decision-making process, alternative access options, and/or withdrawal/cancellation.
  • WEB DEVELOPMENT: Manage library website and work collaboratively with library staff to develop discovery and access strategies for cross-platform integration of online resources and services.
  • DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Participate in campus committees, reference, and library instruction as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • An MLIS degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school or Bachelors degree in Information Technology or related field and 3-5 years experience with library technology.
  • Aptitude for complex problem-solving work and process improvement. Experience operating, maintaining and evaluating library systems preferred (e.g. Alma/Primo and OCLC).
  • Knowledge of current trends in Systems & Electronic Resources, including best practices and a commitment to exploring how developing trends can be applied to transform local operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills, including: time management, data management, and clear communication in various mediums (verbal, written, and visual).
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in alignment with the strategic goals of the library and the College.
  • Commitment to safeguard privacy and use discretion in managing information gathered while providing library services.
  • Foster a user-focused commitment to accessibility in support of Lake Forest Colleges commitment to acting as an anti-racist institution.
  • Experience working with diverse populations; academic library experience preferred.
