Job Description Summary
This position is responsible for patient food service on assigned units, in accordance with patient's prescribed diets. This position will adhere to appropriate nutrition care. Knowledge and competency of basic nutrition and therapeutic diets is preferred. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: menu selection, tray delivery and pick up, special requests and needs of the patients and family members, and maintaining floor stock of the assigned units. Additional responsibilities include communication with patients and family members, dietitians nursing and other co-workers, by phone. Trinity Core

1 20% Yes
Exhibits a friendly, caring attitude towards patients when taking menu
selections, delivering trays and picking up trays. Visits patients rooms
to collect menus selections prior to meals and accurately enters the
information into food service software system. Acts as a liaison
between Dietitian and patient.

Offers alternates to menu as allowed on prescribed diet in accordance
with food allergies and sensitivities, cultural, ethnic and religious
preferences when a patient inquires or needs additional selections.
Interacts with nursing to ensure patients diet prescription are accurate
and patients food needs are met.

Checks for 100% accuracy of food delivered to patients. Scans tray
ticket prior to entering the patient's room to assure accuracy. Follows
the standardized process of entering the patients room, including the
regulatory requirements of using two patient identifier's.

Completes rounds after passing trays to inquire if patient's needs have
been met. Retrieves trays from patients room. Assist the Dietitian's in
completing calorie counts.

Delivers patient menus along with a Diet Explanation Card to all newly
admitted patients. Explains the process to order their meals and
snacks. Distributes the Diet Explanation Card to the patient for their
prescribed diet.

Visits dissatisfied patients/families as need to resolve Food Service
issues and provides follow-up as needed to achieve patient
satisfaction. Escalates issues needing further to the Coordinator,
Manager, Nursing or Dietitian as appropriate.

Assures all patients received a tray for every meal. Documentation is
entered in the food service software system if a patient has chosen not
to receive a meal.

Identifies and delivers the Floor Stock needs of the unit. Places "Dining
Magnet" indicating patient has eaten so Nursing can complete I&O's.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
