Role
We are seeking an experienced marketing lawyer to support Splunk's marketing and demand generation initiatives, globally. This role presents an exciting opportunity to craft policies and practices inside a rapidly growing big data company, influence key initiatives and aid in our success. You will have both a meaningful role in a growing legal department and an opportunity to develop professionally with the support of a collaborative and experienced team! The role reports to Splunk's Director, Product & Marketing Legal and is based in Splunk's corporate HQ in San Francisco (location flexible).

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
- Consider and advise on legal, business and reputational matters globally in the areas of
- demand generation, marketing, advertising, web and print content, and social media activities
- branding, logos, domain names and trademark management
- substantiation, comparative advertising, and direct marketing issues, as well as other types of claims that are subject to regulatory requirements
- online advertising issues, including affiliate and incentive marketing, and behavioral advertising
- sponsorships, endorsements and customer, employee and prospect events (including annual user conferences)
- executive communications and field communications
- industry analyst-related activities
- press releases, presentations and marketing collateral
- contests, sweepstakes and promotions
- Develop policies and best practice procedures and templates for all aspects of Splunk's marketing programs and initiatives
- Counsel on and pursue competitor false advertising claims and trademark-related disputes
- Draft and negotiate various licensing and marketing agreements, including advertising, agency, and media buying agreements as well as promotional and direct marketing services
- Support our Splunk for Good initiatives
- Develop and deliver training for marketing, sales, legal and other relevant teams, as needed
- Support and coordinate with subject matter experts relating to compliance, product development, litigation, intellectual property, data security and privacy, including matters relating to GDPR, CAN-SPAM, cookie practices, opt-in/-out
- Pitch-in on whatever legal work needs doing, whenever it needs to be done
Requirements:
The candidate must have:
- J.D. and in good standing to practice law in the State of California (or state of residence) with a minimum of 6 to 9 years experience; experience at a publicly-traded technology company preferred
- Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to adapt to and thrive in a dynamic environment of rapid growth, preferably in or with fast-paced tech driven companies
- Be organized, efficient and resourceful with strong follow-through abilities
- Excellent business sense and legal judgment, with the ability to be strategic as well as detail-oriented
- Be able to simultaneously manage and stage workloads, multiple client demands and shifting priorities within a rapidly evolving environment
- Experience counseling on IP matters a plus
