Aon is looking for an Analyst, Intellectual Property Valuation

Job Description Summary

Be an integral part of the Aon IP Solutions team, conducting IP valuations in support of our various product and service offerings, learning from and assisting our current IP valuation team, and assisting in other facets of our business. Our Chicago office is the preferred location for this position.

Job Description:

  • Perform research on companies, industries, technology trends, and other business subjects employing publicly available and subscription-only databases and other sources.
  • Extract, analyze, and summarize historical financial data for specific companies and peer groups of companies using Capital IQ.
  • Review and analyze financial statements and corporate SEC filings for data and information relevant to valuation analyses.
  • Create databases that enable efficient and flexible analysis of data and information relevant to valuation analyses.
  • Assist team with interviewing clients to gather data and information pertinent to valuation analyses.
  • Design and construct Excel-based financial models for DCF-based valuations with advanced Excel features that enable quick and reliable assessment of alternative scenarios.
  • Present research findings and valuation analysis conclusions to direct supervisor and other audiences verbally and in writing.
  • Draft portions of valuation reports for submission to clients and/or other external parties.
  • Support the Aon IP Solutions team with special projects including, but not limited to, preparing materials for internal training and for business development meetings with external parties.
  • Represent the leadership and management of Aon IP Solutions in a way that mirrors the adopted mission, core values, and culture of Aon IP Solutions.
  • Help drive Aon IP Solutions to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow, and business goals and objectives.
  • Represent attributes of stewardship, humility, integrity, trust.

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

Required Experience:

  • Keen attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and strong sense of ownership for work performed.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Proven ability to work with other team members and to interact effectively with individuals of various seniority levels. Clear and concise verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, driven environment that requires responsiveness and valuable contributions while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • 1-2+ years of valuation experience constructing and analyzing valuation models, with emphasis on DCF-based models. IP valuation preferred but not required.
  • Solid understanding of valuation methodologies with proficiency in the application of cost, market, and income approaches.
  • Thorough understanding of the linkages between income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, and meaningful experience analyzing historical financial statements in 10Ks and other SEC filings.
  • Substantial experience evaluating forward-looking financial projections for overall reasonableness and internal consistency.
  • Command of Microsoft Office suite -- Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (including advanced features such as macros, pivot tables, and conditional formulas).

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or economics. Concentration or major in finance strongly preferred.
