Athletic Field Maintenance Technician
Hours: Some flexibility with schedule, both weekend days required, (either 4 or 8 hr. shifts) approximately 32 hours per week, April - November
Location: Frank Johnson Center - 490 Kenilworth Ave., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
Pay Rate: $14.00 -$17.00/hr. depending on qualifications
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Park Operations Manager, the PT Athletic Field Maintenance Technician is responsible for prepping, maintaining, and repairing Park District baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields to provide safe and attractive athletic fields throughout the District. Duties include but not limited to layout, striping, and maintaining soccer, softball, football, and baseball fields, assisting with mowing and trimming of all athletic fields and other turf areas, raking and dragging infields, assisting with weed control on athletic fields including infield and turf areas. Check inventory and perform maintenance/ repair of bases, home plate, pitching rubbers, soccer goals, field posts, chalk, line paint, etc. Pick up garbage and remove any hazardous items. Inspect turf for bare spots, low areas, standing water, etc. Inspect fences, dugout areas, lighting, bleachers and notify supervisor of any concerns. Will oversee seasonal staff during the peak summer season. This is an at-will position.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, reliable and have a love of or familiarity with these sports. A strong sense of pride, responsibility, and initiative to achieve safe, clean, and well-maintained athletic fields is essential. Previous maintenance experience preferred with knowledge of hand tools and equipment. Athletic field experience a plus. High School diploma or equivalent required with a valid IL Driver's License and reliable transportation to and from work. Must have a good driving record and submit to a Driver's Abstract through the Secretary of State office at our expense. Familiarity with the Glen Ellyn area is highly desired. Must be in good physical condition to perform manual labor in various weather conditions including high heat/humidity and cold. Able to work independently with a strong sense of safety and provide leadership and direction to seasonal staff during the summer. Effective communication skills and desire to provide quality customer service is essential. Candidates will need to pass a background check once offered the position.
