PROCESS DESIGN ENGINEER

Engineering Design Center

Zachry Group is seeking a Process Design Engineer responsible in the design office for routine engineering and design tasks of the process area of assigned projects based on specific and detailed instructions received from the assigned supervisor as to the required tasks and results expected.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for design of relief system, flare header design, relief valve sizing and performing contingency analysis and flare header analysis.
  • Responsible for sizing and rating various equipment like pumps, horizontal and vertical vessels, shell and tube heat ex-changers, and air coolers.
  • Responsible for developing process flow diagrams and process and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Responsible for development of heat and material balance information using various commercial software.
  • Responsible for performing hydraulic analysis and calculations for piping systems.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis and studies.
  • Responsible for engineering and design tasks of the Process engineering discipline of assigned projects. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Evaluate processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review, and to incorporate in technical specifications to be issued for procuring equipment and instruments.
  • Analyze problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems.
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Estimate production costs for management.
  • Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review, to implement operating procedures, and resolve system malfunctions.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Provide specific to discipline technical expertise to the degree of preparing and providing training for other personnel; both within the company and for the customer.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 15+ years of experience working as an engineer in the Industrial Construction/Services Industry
  • Experience applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Proficient in performing hydraulic analysis, heat and material balance calculations and flare system analysis
  • Experience in safety system design
  • Experience in sizing and rating pumps, vessels and exchangers
  • Experience in PFD and P&ID development, and participation in Hazop and LOPA studies
  • Experience in developing instrument lists and line list
  • Good Communication Skills (Active Listening, Verbal, and Written)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Process Engineering experience in the Diversified, Food & Beverage or Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience as a Process Engineer in the midstream, petrochemical and refining industries.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Will work in a general office environment. Capable of operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Must possess a vision (corrected or uncorrected) that allows for clear visibility from a distance of 20 inches or less.
