Then our Recess Coach position is perfect for YOU!

Urban Initiatives is looking to hire a Recess Coaches to implement their recess program for K through 8th grade students in a specific Chicago partner school for the 2021/2022 school year starting 8/30/21 through 6/14/22. This program runs on every day of student attendance for up to 30 hours per week (6 hours per day).

Recess Coaches oversee the day-to-day operation of the Recess Program at one partner school and coordinate activities to ensure they are safe, active and engaging. With support from their Program Manager, Recess Coaches are responsible for maintaining high quality and consistent recess programming that foster students social and emotional development, physical activity, and play. Beyond recess, these team members work with school administrators to become a part of the school community and support initiatives for culture and climate building and the social and emotional development of students.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation of recess at one partner school

  • Lead sessions and implement program curriculum including games, lessons, and discussions/activities

  • Uphold high program quality standards and foster participant social and emotional learning

  • Collect and submit data to inform continuous quality improvement and program impact

  • Serve as an ambassador for Urban Initiatives work within your school community and advocate for the power of play on student outcomes with school administration nad community stakeholders

  • Communicate regularly with your Program Manager

  • Communicate regularly with and manage relationships with administrators, support staff, and youth

  • Participate ongoing professional development with Urban Initiatives management

  • Foster positive school culture and climate during outside of recess time through activities such as joining Committees or supporting school-wide social emotional learning initiatives

  • Additional duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Interest to work within a school community

  • Demonstrated desire to play and have fun with youth

  • Ability to self-direct while balancing multiple tasks

  • Ability to work with others to accomplish common goals

  • Demonstrated strength in emotion regulation, time management, problem solving and communication skills

  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders

  • Demonstrated capacity to be adaptable while maintaining high quality work

  • Current CPR/AED certification (Urban Initiatives will provide if needed)

  • Fingerprint background check clearance and freedom from tuberculosis test required Urban Initiatives will provide)

Compensation Package:

Recess Coaches receive hourly compensation of $21/hour for their role. Performance-based bonus potential of up to $4,000 contingent on exceeding semesterly program standards. Access to up to 40 hours of paid sick leave and 18 hours of consecutive paid self-care leave.
