Overview

SUMMER 2022

Shure offers a challenging and rewarding summer internship program. The twelve week program is offered to undergraduate students that have completed at least 2 years of college, as well as graduate students. Each intern will receive a competitive salary and students who reside out of Illinois will receive a housing stipend to cover living expenses for hyrbid or onsite internships. Applications will be collected, reviewed and selected candidates will be contacted in late fall/early winter.

Under supervision of the Managing Associate Staff Engineer, the Tool Engineering Intern will assist with designing, developing, and implementing new or improved tools, fixtures and gages, as well as assisting in documentation of assembly and component drawings of existing designs. Will learn how Shure Tool Engineering Department provides support to manufacturing engineering for all plants, as well as various project teams, including New Product Teams, Advanced Development Teams and manufacturing maintenance of line plant support (MOL).

This internship will be combination of part-time remote/virtual and part-time in office.


Responsibilities

  • Learns how to design and document tools, fixtures and dies with the assistance of more senior engineers, including participation in creation of schedules, design reviews and implementation.
  • Learns to work across multiple levels in a team environment as well as one-on-one.
  • Works on multiple projects and stays within required schedules.
  • Assists with documentation of equipment and process modifications to improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques and production yields for existing products.
  • Performs other engineering duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD required - Siemens NX software desired.
  • Working knowledge of dimensional tolerancing and best drafting practices.
  • Working knowledge of typical shop practices and has the ability to design around these practices.
  • Able to research and compile the necessary information to complete a tool / fixture design.
  • Has good technical communication skills to be able to convey design intent.
  • Able to apply company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
  • Able to follow standard instructions, practices and procedures in tool and fixture design.
  • Begins working on projects, with scope limited to specific tasks.
  • Works under close supervision of more senior tool engineers.
