Job Description

About the Role

The Controls Engineer leads the efforts in optimizing our production equipment, specifically in the electrical arena. The Controls Engineer will focus on, troubleshooting electrical control systems and make PLC/HMI programming changes on Allen Bradley and Siemens equipment, keeping our state of the art facility at peak operational performance and efficiency, always considering safety, cost, and quality as top priorities.

What Youll Do

  • Acts as lead maintenance technician in regards to project development, engineering, implementation and transition to production.
  • Participates in development meetings and discussion devising the scope of projects.
  • Sources supplies and oversees the delivery of equipment and materials.
  • Communicates directly with vendors to develop project costs, staffing, and scheduling and tentative payment schedules.
  • Reaches out to vendors/OEMs as needed for technical support.
  • Reviews plans and other technical documents (P&IDs and BOMs, drawing and reviewing schematics), serves as liaison regarding the scope and/or timing of the project, and monitors costs and project progress.
  • Takes the lead in directing contractual and internal resources during project implementations.
  • Inspects and reviews projects to monitor compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Prepares project status reports and works to ensure plans adhere to contract specifications.
  • Evaluates current procedures and recommends changes to improve the efficiency of planning and scheduling.
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls systems and make PLC/HMI programming changes on Allen Bradley and Siemens equipment.
  • Train crafts, especially electricians, in order to expand their skill sets (example: controls, instrumentation, etc.)
  • Be on-call to support the brewery for urgent downtime events.
  • Work closely with operations to document largest downtime issues.
  • Attends shift change meetings; Leads/implements continuous improvement activities:
  • Safety improvements.
  • Root cause analysis in downtime events and implementing solutions to prevent/reduce re-occurrences.
  • Reducing waste.
  • Researching innovations in the market that can improve brewery performance.
