Position Summary
Urban Initiatives is hiring Assistant Coaches to support the implementation of their soccer-based social emotional learning program for 1st through 4th grade players in schools across the city for the 2021/2022 school year. This program runs for two, 10-week seasons and sessions are typically three times per week during after school hours. The Assistant Coach dedicates their time to program implementation, and administrative and relationship management assistance. With support from their Head Coach, Assistant Coaches are responsible for maintaining high quality and consistent programming. Orientation takes place on 8/28/21, training on 9/11/21, and the fall season launches on 9/27/21.
Urban Initiatives Summary
Founded in 2003, Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that runs youth development programs in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). These programs focus on students social and emotional development. Urban Initiatives mission is to use the power of sport and play to empower Chicagos youth to achieve academic success, develop social-emotional skills, and build social capital. Currently, Urban Initiatives serves over 16,000 students in grades K-12 throughout the City of Chicago.
Principal Responsibilities
Participate in Urban Initiatives training to learn coaching best practices and program activities
Support Head Coach to facilitate program activities and discussions
Encourage players to follow safety regulations, demonstrate teamwork, participate in activities, have fun, and learn!
Help setup and cleanup program sessions
Distribute equipment and materials to players
Communicate regularly with your Program Manager
Additional duties as needed
Qualifications:
Demonstrated desire to play and have fun with youth
Demonstrated commitment to attend program sessions with occasional evenings and weekends
Ability to work with others to accomplish common goals
Current CPR/AED certification (Urban Initiatives will provide if needed)
Fingerprint background check clearance and freedom from tuberculosis test required Urban Initiatives will provide
Compensation
Assistant Coaches receive hourly compensation of $17/hour for their role. Opportunity for bi-annual performance-based bonus of $250 contingent on exceeding seasonal program standards.
