Job Description Summary

The Credit Officer role requires a comprehensive skill set to effectively execute broad risk management responsibilities within Large Corporate Credit Risk. Some of the responsibilities include: Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Global Banking & Markets product spectrum; Responsible for driving speed to market and asset quality; Manages (primary account responsibility) a complex portfolio of Large Corporate clients within the bank's risk appetite and risk strategies; Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the portfolio at the client, industry, and macro level in order to assess risk and craft value added solutions that balance risk and return; Independently assess the credit worthiness, including due diligence of prospective borrowers and/or trading counterparties and establish/negotiate appropriate terms and conditions to mitigate risk; Actively monitor the portfolio including changes in credit profile and compliance with credit agreements; Provide high quality and efficient credit approvals to Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Global Markets and Treasury while observing compliance of established credit policies and guidelines; Structure transactions and negotiate credit documentation including; syndicated and bilateral credit agreements, guarantees, security agreements, amendments, ISDAs, and CSAs; Establish appropriate internal risk ratings for clients and implement accurate adjustments throughout the client's credit life cycle; Develop, maintain, and manage internal relationships with business partners including Corporate and Investment Bankers, Sales & Trading, Risk Management, Syndications, and Legal; Participate in strategic projects to support business goals.

Job Description

The Credit Officer effectively executes broad credit risk management responsibilities within Wholesale Credit.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Primary account responsibility for a complex portfolio of Large Corporate Clients in the Consumer & Retail Sector.

  • Own credit transactions with an ability to lead, structure and negotiate complex transactions and credit documentation to mitigate risk appropriately.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills; team player with a positive attitude.

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the industry and an assigned portfolio of clients to assess risk solutions that balance risk and return.

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Global Banking & Markets product spectrum.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Global Markets and Treasury Management.

  • Independently develop high quality credit analysis with a focus on business rationale, key risks, sources of repayment, projections and returns & profitability

  • Independently assess, diligence and make justifiable credit recommendations.

  • Establish appropriate internal risk ratings for clients and implement accurate adjustments throughout the clients' credit life cycle.

  • Participate in line of business and cross-department strategic projects to support business goals.

  • Responsible for driving portfolio asset quality, speed to market and responsible funded loan growth

Required Skills:

  • 7+ years' experience in commercial and / or corporate lending environment, with understanding of the syndicated loan market, trading & treasury products

  • Able to soundly manage the portfolio and justify rationale for recommended transactions.

  • Must have ability to manage the most complex transactions, possess strong credit skills and transaction experience, and demonstrate the ability to work with clients, senior leaders, and business partners (internal and external).

  • Must be able to independently lead diligence efforts, make approval recommendations, negotiate loan documentation and execute timely closings

  • Requires effective communication style and ability to manage multiple priorities - must be a team player
