What you can expect in this role
As a Spectrum Intern, you'll be essential to two teams - your respective department and your Intern peer group. Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You'll spend the other 20% on professional development sessions and networking activities, including the Kickoff Conference on May 31st, webinars, community service, cross-functional project, and final presentations.

Internship responsibilities may include
  • BI Analytics Projects.
  • Research and development of new tools and techniques to apply within existing workflow(s)
    • Design and development of data visualizations tools
    • Research and applications of interpretable machine learning methods
    • Geospatial analytical techniques and tools
  • Ad-hoc analytics requests
    • Profiling new data sources
    • Using data analysis to answer pressing business questions
  • Presenting analytical findings / making data-driven recommendations
  • Active participation in learning about the team and how it fits into the company
    • Develop understanding of common data sources, tools, etc.
    • Develop understanding of organizational structure, relationships, responsibilities, etc.

Here's what it takes to get started

Required qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited College or University completing a Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Degree
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
  • Ability to travel locally to Spectrum Intern development events and activities throughout the program
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship
  • Hands-on experience with intermediate SQL, and one of either R or Python in a data science / analytics context.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Basic understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with analyzing large and complex data sets to provide valuable insights and findings.
  • Experience with preparing data for visualization and reporting using Excel, PowerPoint or Tableau.
  • Hands-on experience with building machine learning models - regression, XGBoost, decision trees etc.
  • Basic knowledge of interpretable machine learning techniques, including regression, XGBoost, partial dependencies, SHAP scores, etc.
  • Experience in writing and speaking about technical concepts and giving data-driven presentations to business and technical audiences.
