Civil Project Manager (Phase I) - Chicago, IL

Join our Chicago team as a highly motivated Project Manager. In this role, you will lead and manage local road preliminary design and environmental studies, primarily in northeastern Illinois. As the Phase I Project Manager, you will mentor junior associates, handle day-to-day client relations, and spearhead the development of innovative solutions for complex Phase I projects on behalf of public agencies. Additionally, you will contribute to strategic initiatives to drive growth within the civil group.

The Impact You Will Have:
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that foster the growth of the civil group.
  • Manage, lead, and oversee team activities, supporting their growth through mentorship and guidance.
  • Review and manage production documents, client management, internal team management, and project financials.
  • Enhance the overall effectiveness of your team by identifying their strengths and aligning them with suitable project tasks.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identifying potential obstacles both internally and externally.
  • Negotiate contracts and clearly define project scope within proposals.
  • Ensure projects adhere to schedule and scope.
  • Reinforce the Benesch brand, emphasizing collaboration, quality, innovation, and integrity, to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Identify opportunities and spearhead strategic project pursuits while collaborating on a regional growth strategy.
  • Delegate project tasks to team members, defining deliverables and establishing deadlines.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Licensed P.E. in Illinois; certification as a PTOE, AICP, or other specialty certification is a plus.
    Minimum of 10 years of experience in designing local roads, arterials, collectors, and complete street multimodal facilities.
  • Enjoy client interfacing, excel in business development, and possess extensive experience in public involvement and stakeholder coordination.
  • Proficient in leading Phase I transportation, environmental, planning, and preliminary engineering activities. Experience with PELs is also advantageous.
  • Skilled in team management and mentoring, fee proposal generation, scope of service writing, RFP/RFQ interviews, and QA/QC management.
  • Experience over the past ten years in preparing NEPA transportation-related Categorical Exclusion or Environmental Assessment projects.
  • Familiarity with traffic and safety assessments. Knowledge of GIS is a bonus!
